Spring Forward 2018!

Update from the Wandering Toes.

You know how when you first awake from a deep and restful sleep? You are rested but still comfy. Maybe you don’t want to get out of bed even though you kind of slept well. Your eyes are crusty and the light is too bright to let fully in. But the sun is up and you’ve got things you need to do. You have a whole day of possibilities and things you want to accomplish, so you ramp up your will to participate, throw back the covers and get on with living again!

Yeah, it’s like that. That’s about how I feel now after a winter of hibernating, working and waiting. I know that I’ve had things I need to do – even things I want to do, and I haven’t had the will or energy to move any of them forward. This is where expectations meet up with the reality of entropy and evaporate into good intentions. And I really don’t want to be “that guy”. The one who intends to do great things, but never really gets around to them. I have just taken a break. That’s all. I’ve been using the winter to rest, plan and scheme. Sometimes waiting for the right time to move forward on each of our goals, sometimes just waiting for a sale (yes, I’m very cheap).

I made a couple of videos that I am going to release soon to YouTube about fixing the engine on Wandering Toes. They’re more technical in nature and not really something that I’d expect most of our family or friends to watch or enjoy. They’re really meant more to help others with the same or similar engines to see what we did while tearing apart our engine and putting it back together. I won’t be disappointed if nobody watches them. They’re meant for that one person out there who really just needs to see someone else do it first before they do their own work, and to encourage that person. We’ll see. They’re different.

We have been sewing new cushions for Wandering Toes and those are looking great. I’m excited to see how they look on the boat this summer. We are still getting rid of some things and putting others into storage for when we’re gone. We have all of the parts to install our new solar panels on Wandering Toes and we are super excited to get that done, but it won’t all come together until after we have the boat in the water in a couple of months.

Wow! A couple of months! I remember when it was a couple of years. Longer even. A lot of things have been crossed off the to-do list, and there are still quite a few bunched up in the next four months before we go.

The weather here in Duluth is supposed to be in the upper 30’s and mid-40’s for the next week, and we are very happy to see the snow melting. This weekend we “Spring Forward!” and with that energy building, we toss aside the blankets and sweaters and lethargy of winter and get busy getting down to the business of going cruising!

Yay, 2018! Here we come!

  2. Your excitement for water and fresh air is my excitement for warm weather, playing in the yard with the boys, grilling, our garden and the same fresh air! Thank you for the reminder that winter isn’t forever, even though it seems like it! Love you two!

    1. Hey Troy, let us know when you’re up. I saw your new logo, it looks great! Lots of snow will be melting up here this week with weather in the 40s. We’ll have a ton of stuff going on in May, but we will try to get together if we can. db

  3. Hi You Two. We’ve been on the boat in Ft. Myers for the Winter and I can’t wait til you can have a nice warm Winter, too. I think a long, Icey, cold and snow filled Winter makes a person all a-twiiter for the next season.(besides, Marge, it puts hair on your chest). Can’t wait to follow you guys on “THE BIG TRIP”. Neil

    1. Hi Neil, we are very ready to get on our way. I’m glad you’re enjoying Florida. Dave keeps us informed on your travels some. We still have 4 months left and lots of projects to complete. But I think we have a handle on everything. It’ll all come together. I’m hoping we can share our experiences along the way with new eyes. It will be fun! db

    1. Hi JR! We are heading to the boat this morning to take a few things and do some general plotting and planning. See what the snow situation is up there. I think we’re moving in the right direction and coming out of our winter hibernation. I even have more things on my mind to write about, so hopefully I can keep the posts coming now. I’m sure we’ll see you this spring. Let us know when you’re up. db

    1. Hey Man! Haven’t heard from you in a while! Tell me it’s all good. We have just been busy getting ready for all that we’re doing this summer. I will let you know when we’re out on Lake Erie this late-summer and maybe you can drive up and meet us somewhere for a day. We will definitely stop at your place with the RV in another year or two, but we should try to meet before that. How is everything going?
